blooming friday - Christmas fireplace decoration

well, the sun is shinig and that doesn't help! :))
to have some real Christmas feeling, it should snow, it should be darker, cooler..
anything than this execeptional weather we have had in the last days! :))
anyway, can't do anything about it...so let's enjoy it! :)

together with my two doughters we have made the Christmas decoration for the
fireplace.
I cut brances of
mugo pine, whitebark pine, austrian pine
together with branches of rosemary and bay.

the decorations are small wooden or wicker Christmas objects,
ribbons and Christmas balls.

I put 4 big white candles for the Advent.

on the front door we put a very old decoration,
I made this together with the kids
I think some 10-12years ago :))
a simple juta bag filled with linning
match boxes as gifts
old toys
wooden stars
home made gips decorations
all clued together

this is the view we have had in the last week, it is very little Christmas feeling but so beautiful.

blooming friday - Adventskrans

it is raining so much in these days, taht it makes it difficult to work in the garden.
the other day I manged to clean the terrace a little, to move all my citrus plants closer to the wall of the house, to plant some cyclamen that give some colour.
actually I didn't finsished..it started to rain again, and I had to leave it all there.



Wednesday, it was very beautiful...the oaks around our house still have their leaves, coloured yellow and brown, in the sun they shine as gold.
this is a view of a part of the house, seen from the hill in front of us.




it was so nice I went out for a walk to cut some branches for the
firepleace, I usualy make one big Adventskrans on the fireplace, and one small as table decoration.
my fireplace is non ready yet, I can't find the candles I'm looking for, and it started to rain again
today so I didn't finsihed.
I hope to have it done until Sunday, the second Advent! :)


I must say that it is thank's to Katarina that I manged to make my Adventskrans in time!
last Friday she showed us hers, and I just left the pc on..and run out in the garden to do mine! :))

this is what came out, using things and plants from my garden.





one round pot filld with potting soil (I used acid soil)
1 white cyclamen persicum (florist's cyclamen)
4 brances of iberis sempervirens (evergreen candytuft)
6-7 brances of pino mugo (dwarf mountain pine)
12-14 brances of santolina chamaecyparissus (gray santolina or lavender cotton)
4 candles 40cm high
some long brances of Hedera helix variegata (variegated english ivy)



plant the cyclamen in the middle.
the 4 candles as a cross.
and in between the candles put all the branches.
wrap the hedera around the pot and put the start and the end in the soil.

leave your decoration outside while your not using it, otherwise it will all dry out in
the indoor temperature.

blooming friday - autumn composition

in these last November day's,

when the fog makes everything look dizzy,

the rain is pouring down and your mood is under your feet..
you just want it to be brighter, the day's longer, the sun to come back again.
it is not really time yet to dress up for Christmas,

so why not compose something colourfull to cheer you up a little.

I used a big simple pot where I already had cuttings of Nasturtium and Bignonia.
then my father-in-law gave me three bouquets of mixed leaves and flowers
that I could dispose as I wished.

It came out rather nice, a little bit colourful, not to much.

I'm non very fond of flowers in strong colours,

I prefer white or faded colours.
it looks good against the colour of the floor

(cotto fiorentino) and the wooden fence.

I put it as focus looking out from the living room.

I used Erica, Gipsophyla, ornamental cabbage,

a kind of Calicarpa (I think)

and branches of red and green leaves

(not very easy to recognize from just the leaves :)

the blue-greenish leaves could be some kind of Eucalipto.

here is also the Bignonia cutting

the Nasturtium, still growing fresh and green,

didn't produce much flowers this summer

but still looks very healthy :)

some berries from some small rose bush,

you can also use branches with Pyracantha berries

looks good but doesn't last much when cut.

the Cotoneaster is a little bit stronger and lasting.

I do hope some of this branches will turn out as cuttings :)

blooming friday - sedum spectabilis

one of my many favorites is the Sedum Specatabilis.
I love waiting for it's minute flowers turning to pink.
then the whole plant turns red and brown, drying up completaly.
I think it looks very nice against my stonewall :)


it is a very easy growing plant, just take one small leaf and put it
in the ground...
and it will give you a new plant in no time.
it likes sunny places, poor soil and little water.
what else can you ask of a plant.


the sun is going down on this beautiful place that is the Garda Lake.
yesterday I had a huge group of german students doing a trekking on the
MOnte Baldo.
the weather up there was terrible...10°C, foggy and windy.
but when we came down...the sunset over Malcesine...was spectacular...

blooming friday - lantana & solanum

katarina asks as whats ours leading ladies and figurants..
here the sometimes very hot and sunny weather during summer
makes some flowers stop blooming, just to come back again in September.
but I have a few that doesn't care about the heat, the sun or the high humidity :)

two are the lantanas..
one is lantana camara, mine the one in simple yellow
it grows in my rock garden so well, never complaining if I forget to water.



the other one is even more beautiful, the lantana mondevidensis
it's leaves changes colour in autumn, turning in dark purple.




both of them are very perfumed, not the flowers much as their leaves.
here on the Garda Lake they are winterhard, is is not necessary to cover them even on the few days of snow we have :)

both was bought on the Cote D'Azur several years ago, and I'm so pleased they liked it here.


another very very
easygrowing, nevercompling, alwayshappy plant is the solanum crispum.
this one is a cutting, growing so big and beautiful under the Robina tree.


as it is so difficuolt making cuttings of the lantana, with the solanum crispum..
you just cut a small branch, you put in earth in the shade...and you wait..
the next spring you can plant it in the ground.

it will loose it's leaves in the winter, will look sooo miserable...
put as the tiepid spring sun comes back (here the spring starts in early March)
it will pop out it's new sprouts...and in no time..fill with purple, delicate flowers that will perfume in the wind ass you pass by.
so, plant near a place were you sit, realx or/and eat.

questa volta sono soddisfatissima...eh eh..anzi sono gasatissima :)))

certo con tutto quel girare, dovremmo essere abituate,
con tutto quel girare dovremmo essere a posto,
con tutte quel girare dovremmo essere più che soddisfatte



stiamo girando il Monte Baldo in lungo ed in largo..
sempre più affascinate, sempre curiose, sempre più felici.

allora cosa ha di così speciale proprio questo giro?
ormai su al telegrafo ci siamo andate un sacco di volte...
veramente ci manca solo da arrivare dal sentiero n° 66..che parte dal sentiero Bovi (marocco) Cai n° 652 (quello che dal telegrafo porta alla Madonna delle neve)..
per il resto ci siamo arrivate da tutte le parti.



beh..., questa volta ci siamo organizzate da sole,
questa volta abbiamo scelto noi i sentieri da fare,
questa volta abbiamo valutato noi come fare,
questa volta...siamo andate da sole!



il giro Assenza-Telegrafo era un'idea di Piero.
ma Piero ha scoperto la bici e così...
lui sta facendo chilometri e chilometri (ma proprio tantii!!!) sulla bici..
mentre noi continuiamo macinare chilometri a piedi.
infatti con lui l'anno scorso siamo arrivate fino a Pesina!!
ma, quest'anno non volevamo esagerare (mica dobboiamo dimostrare niente a nessuno!)
e abbiamo deciso scendere a Prada.

tutto organizzatissimo...pullaman da Garda per Assenza (viva APTV, in orario per una volta!)poi...
Assenza - Malga Brione con sentiero Cai N° 30...che sembravo meno ripido del Cai n° 654,


ma devo dire che è davvero bello tosto.
abbiamo preso il secondo bivio a destra (venendo da Assenza)
ci si inoltra in un fitta boscaglia che si chiama Bosco di Azzaga,
ci si arrampica per dei gradoni di sassi irregolari, coperti di foglie secche.
l'aria è ferma, il sole riscalda, è l'umidità è alle stelle.
dopo alcuni metri grondavamo di sudore tutte quattro.
il sentiro si snoda a zigzag nel bosco...tutto è immobile si sente solo il
(continuo) chiaccherio delle brii (ma come fa??? :)))) e le bacchettine che battono
ritmicamente il passo.
verso i 500mt c'è un posto panoramico..si vede il taglio profondo della val Lunga, di fronte in alto
si staglia la Pala di San Zeno (1236mt) e sotto si riesce immaginare l'eremo di San Benigno e Caro
e proprio di fronte, di fronte ci deve essere il Capitello della Merla.
finalmente verso i 850mt si esce dal bosco..

(guardo il gps e vedo che abbiamo fatto appena 3km!!)
adesso alzando lo sguardo si riesce vedere il taglio
della Valle delle Pre..noi questa volta non vogliamo passare in mezzo...
noi questo volta passiamo sopra, facendo il Cavallo del Forcellino!

quando arriviamo a Malga Brione a 942mt, ci guardiamo in torno..ci meravigliamo del posto splendido..vediamo i noccioli carichi di nocciole e....
una di noi mette il piede in mezzo ad un nido di vespe!!!
simoooo e elena urlano scappando via come due indemoniate..
io che sono dietro monica, non la riesco passare via.. ho paura perchè sono allergica..
in preda all'ansia la vedo piena di vespe..non riesce a schiacciarle, non riesce correre
mi tolgo le bacchettine, ben sapendo che si beccano sono guai..ma cosa posso fare..
mica la lascio lì da sola con le vespe??
a mani nude provo toglierle più possibile..e più che logico che mi pungono.
in qualche maniera le riusciamo disperdere.
monica è stata punta da 2 o più vespe..io da una..che mi fa gonfiare la mano in un attimo.
simoo mi vuole fare l'inezione di cortisone
(lei ha sempre dietro l'inezione, lei è allergica alle api)
io dico, che secondo me non c'è bisogno..infatti il gonfiore si è fermato a metà mano.
si è sgonfiato in giro di 3 giorni, il prurito ed il rossore è rimasto per più di una settimana.
l'allergia per quelle piccole creaturine è bestiale!!!
ripensandoci abbiamo riso per tutta la giornata, sarebbe stato da filmare..
tutte 4 che urlavano e sbraitavano, monica che saltava ed io che la menavo..
robe da candid camera!! :))))
e poi nello scarpone, MOnica ne trova una morta stecchita!!



per fortuna siamo sul senterio Cai N° 32, che porta all'innesto con la strada Prada- Porto
in mezzo alla bellissima Val delle Nogare.

siamo già oltre Malga Zovel, 980 mt..e con questo sentiero si evita il pezzo di strada
asfaltata che si deve fare se si segue il senterio N° 654.

facciamo la seconda merenda..e ci inoltriamo nella valle delle Nogare.
è un posto meraviglioso, ti sembra di tornare indietro nell'età della pietra..
seguendo la mulattiera, anzi sembra quasi una strada militare..piano piano
saliamo, saliamo.
siamo vicini a C.ra Valloare...e qui parte la deviazione per il Forcellino.
ormai siamo a oltre 1600mt..il lago in lontanza brilla e ci fa continuamente girare e
guardare indietro.

ma, il sentiero del Forcellino, è pericoloso e da ora in poi..dobbiamo stare molto attenti.

vado davanti, che non mi piace molto, non riesco vedere cosa mi succede alle spalle...
e se le mie amiche hanno bisogno non posso aiutare.
sono sempre stata in fondo, mi piace di più.
elena e simooo soffrono un pochino di vertigini, e qui il sentiero passa sull'esterno della
montagna, in alcuni casi c'è la corda d'acciacio per passare.
zitte zitte e concentratissime andiamo avanti..piano piano.
ci fermiamo solo quando siamo al sicuro, ed allora alziamo lo sguardo
ci guardiamo intorno e ammiriamo le bellezze del posto.
ad un certo punto vediamo un'apertura...ci avviamo..
ed è il Cavallo del Forcellino...
da un lato si vedeva tutto il nord del lago...dall'altra il sud del lago.
ci siamo fermate, abbiamo mangiato e ci siamo riposate un pochino.
poi via di nuovo...
zig zag, sempre in su, sempre in costa, ogni tanto il senterio si nascondeva tra i mughi..
girava bruscamente su per le rocce, ogni tanto scendeva ripido ripido.

ad un certo punto davanti a noi vediamo i due circoli ghiacciali del Telegrafo..

andiamo più avanti, giriamo una curva..e su davanti a noi...il rifugio!!!


elena fischia..sotto ma molto sotto vediamo delle persone.. si sentono delle voci.
sono corrado, emanule e rachele...
tutta la famiglia di elena, che sono venuti su da Prada per incontrarci.
davvero in gamba i figli di elena...emanule ha solo 9 anni e elena 15..
bravissimi volere fare tutta quella strada fino al Telegrafo!!!

al telegrafo, provo chiedere la ricetta del minestrone alla sig.ra Franca per la 3 (o quarta??)
volta..lei ride...e non me lo dà!!! :)))
mi tocca tornare su ritentare :))))

mentre mangiamo, calcoliamo il tempo che abbiamo messo.
siamo partite alle 8.35 e siamo arrivate su alle 14.05.
non male! :)))
restiamo su un'oretta e poi è ora tornare in giù..
abbiamo un pullman da prendere...l'ultimo della giornata...anzi l'ultimo della stagione :)))
scendiamo di nuovo nella valle sotto i circoli ghiacciali.

non resisto..
e faccio un book dell'aconitum napellus..la trovo affasciante..ed adesso che so che è anche un relitto del era cenozoica (si chiama anche endemismi terzari)..sopravissuto alle ere glaciali..
mi intriga ancora di più!
attraversiamo la parte alta della valle delle Pre...
qui ci sono di quelle rocce, in alcuni punti c'è perfino la neve..
i rododendri sfioriti fanno a pugni dello spazio con i profumatissimi mughi.

e seguendo il sentiero ripidissimo saliamo fino su e ci inoltriamo nel mugheto
sopra la valle delle Nogare. sotti di noi tutto il lago...il sole fa scintillare l'acqua..




si fa fatica guardare..da quanto luminoso è.
noi scendiamo dolcemente...sotto di noi la Valtrovai..e poi il pozzo delle Buse.
vicino la baita delle Buse, sbaglio strada ..invece di salire il senterio..mi sembra
che il sentiero in giù sia quello giusto.
come l'altra volta, dobbiamo tagliare per il prato :)
sotto, si riprende la strada sterrata/mulattiera.
sopra sulla nostra sinistra le creste del Coal Santo...sotto di noi prati, vacche ed il lago!

questo sentiero...sentiero natura n° 15 è bellissimo!
facile da fare e molto molto panoramico.
si arriva ( o si parte) dal rif. Prada (ex mondini) che ormai conosciamo benissimo!!
quando siamo arrivati vicino al rifugio controlliamo l'ora..sono le 16.40!! fra un'ora abbiamo
il pullman!
simoo ed io ci buttiamo giù in direttissima, correndo, ridendo e...cadendo! :))))
sotto gli impianti scende un ripidissimo sentiero.. incontriamo un sacco di gente che sta salendo..
vanno al rif. chierego per passare la notte, per poi fare le creste fino a malcesine il giorno dopo.
io gli faccio spostare tutti..dicendo che siamo in ritardo..perdiamo il pullmaaaaaaaan..
ogni tanto mi "lascio scappare" che veniamo da Assenza... :)))
ovvio, che allora bisogna fermarsi spiegare ed incasssare i complimenti :)))

giù in fondo..ma propio 3 metri prima del piano...simoo fa un volo!
ma è molto graziosa, fa una giravolta e cade molto elegantemente :)))

blooming friday - ceratostigma plumbaginoides "bunge"

one of my favourite garden plants is the
ceratostigma plumbaginoides "bunge", beacuse it comes very well
wherever you plant it.
in a pot or planted in the ground,
in sun or in shade it blooms and colour my windows
and my garden for several months.

and in the autumn it's fogliage become al purple and red.
